BEFORE / AFTER SCHOOL CARE
School opens at 7:30 but the academic day doesn’t start until 8:40. Kids can be dropped off from 7:30 on for no additional charge.
Aftercare is provided for $30/week for one child and $40/week for two children.
If a student isn’t riding the bus or picked up by 4:00 they are in aftercare. Aftercare ends at 5:45 Monday through Thursday and 5pm on Fridays.
During Aftercare, kids can eat a snack, read books, play board games, do projects, finish homework, etc. Some kids will use this time to practice the piano (if they are taking lessons) and some will use the time to work on long range hobbies (such are building a model car or jet).
We often watch Odd Squad or WildKratts on PBS. Some afternoons we’ll go outside and go for a walk or play in our playspace behind the building. If we are doing that, we’ll post a sign on the easel at the bottom of the stairs so parents can find us. If the weather is gorgeous, we might go to the park, but we’ll send out a quick e-mail to let everyone know where to find us. Afterschool is a pretty peaceful end to the day.
Each afternoon anyone can ride the bus that lives within 7 to 10 miles of the school or can be delivered to various after school programs close by.
The bus usually leaves around 3:10 (to avoid the high school traffic) and generally everyone is delivered by 4:30. If your child is under 9, someone must be home to greet the child when getting off the bus, for safety. The cost is $30/month.
This week in Afterschool:
Welcome back! I hope everyone had a fantastic summer and that you’re all looking forward to after-school this year. This year in after-school we’ll be focusing on capitalizing on our downtime, exploring our creativity, and really having a blast.
We won’t be getting our hands dirty for the first week, but that doesn’t mean we won’t be having fun. We’ll try to get at least 10 minutes of homework/projects done a day before we really get into our day. If parents want their child to get more work done throughout the day, they can speak to me personally.
The first week of after-school, we’ll all be getting to know each other and planning what we’d like to do this year. We’ll be doing a little portrait project where we will paint our faces on plates and make a list of our likes and dislikes, to put on display, so our classmates can get to know us better. We’ll also try to utilize the gym and definitely go outside more. For the first week, and many more weeks to come, we’ll have a movie afternoon–where the kids will watch a movie while eating popcorn and snacks. I’ll let you know what day it falls on so that you can send your child to school with a blanket. There are many more things for us to look forward to this year and I’m very excited for us to experience them all!
